The Republic of Serbia has various natural resources suitable for different types of agricultural production at its disposal. Although agricultural production in Serbia is mainly extensive, its part in the gross domestic product of the country is still high compared to economically developed countries both in Europe and the worldwide. Due to the fact that the market of agricultural and food products is one of the most competitive markets, it is quite understandable that the producers of such products face numerous requirements and limitations during the products’ placement. On the other hand, taking into consideration the number of participants, modern tourism has become one of the most perspective and the fastest growing economic activities in the world. As a great consumer of agricultural and food products tourism provides an opportunity to its producers to place a surplus of their production through tourist consumption. The purpose of this paper is to point out the significance of tourism development in Serbia so that it, among other things, contributes to successful placement of its agricultural and food products and therefore instigate an economic and general social development of the country.
