In recent decades livestock production in Serbia has faced falling production, which is also the case with pig production, as very significant part of Serbian livestock production. The main objective of this paper is to determine tendencies in Serbian pig production by analyzing the characteristics of farms in this branch of livestock production. In addition, pig farms are classified by economic and agricultural size of farm. The results show retrograde tendencies in the pig production and different characteristics of the pig production on the territory of Vojvodina and Central Serbia. Fragmented production and the production with a low level of competitiveness in Central Serbia are the main reasons of reduced numbers of pigs in Serbia. Therefore, an imperative of agricultural policy in the future period should be the modernization of this production by influencing a greater degree of specialization in this sector, primarily by increasing the size of pig farms.
