ESTUDIO MORFOMÉTRICO DE UNA MUESTRA POBLACIONAL DE CERDOS CRIOLLO CUBANO | MORPHOMETRIC STUDY OF A POPULATION SAMPLE OF CUBAN CRIOLLO PIGS

Английский. A morphometric characterization study was conducted in a population sample of Cuban Criollo pigs. To do so, a random sample of 61 animals (51 females and 10 males) from 12 to 72 months of age was taken. For each animal evaluated, 14 variables were measured, and from them 7 zoometric indices were obtained. Most of the variables and zoometric indices in females and males presented an average of the variation coefficient of 9.8 and 10.8% for the morphometric variables and 8.21 and 9.01% for the morphometric indices. Both presented little variability. There were found statistically significant differences (P0.01) for all the variables the average values of which were greater for the males. For the indices, on the other hand, there was only significant difference in the thoracic and metacarpal-thoracic, despite having a tendency with P0.1 (10%) of significant difference between genders for the rest of the studied indices and for the ages for variables. Both genders showed a noticeable brachycephaly according to the cephalic index, as well as mesolinear proportions by the body index. The males turned out to be brevilineous, unlike of the females, which were medium-sized.It was concluded that there was little variability for most of the variables and zoometric indices, and both genders showed a noticeable brachycephaly. The males (mesolinear and brevilineous) and females (mesolinear and medium-sized) had a tendency to produce body fat. It was recommended to continue the characterization of this gene pool and include phaneroptic data that could provide more accurate descriptive information, as well as to extend this study to Criollo pigs of different farmers and genetic reserves within our country

Испанский язык; кастильский. Se realizó un estudio de caracterización morfométrica en una muestra poblacional de cerdos Criollo Cubano. Para ello, se tomó una muestra al azar de 61 animales (51 hembras y 10 machos) de 12 a 72 meses de edad. Por cada animal evaluado, se midieron 14 variables, y a partir de ellas se obtuvieron 7 índices zoométricos. La mayoría de las variables e índices zoométricos en machos y hembras presentaron un promedio del coeficiente de variación de 9.8 y 10.8% para las variables morfométricas y 8.21 y 9.01% para los indices morfométricos. Ambos con poca variabilidad. Se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas (P0.01) para todas las variables con valores promedio superiores en los machos respecto a las hembras, mientras que para los índices solo hubo diferencia significativa en el torácico y metacarpo-torácico, a pesar que hubo una tendencia con P0.1 (10%) de diferencia significativa entre el sexo para el resto de los índices en estudio. Ambos sexos mostraron una notable braquicefalia según el índice cefálico, así como proporciones mesolíneas por el índice corporal. Los machos resultaron ser brevilíneos, a diferencia de las hembras, que fueron mediolíneas. Se concluyó que hubo poca variabilidad para la mayoría de las variables e índices zoométricos y presentaron una notable braquicefalia en ambos sexos. Los machos (mesolíneos y brevilíneos) y hembras (mesolíneas y mediolíneas) tuvieron una tendencia a la producción de grasa corporal. Se recomendó continuar con la caracterización de este genofondo e incluir datos de faneróptica que aporten mayor información descriptiva, así como extender el estudio en cerdos Criollo de distintos productores y cotos de reserva genética del país.
