Fish composition and physico-chemical characteristic of Magat Reservoir were determined at the upstream, midstream and downstream during dry and wet season in 2011. Two native species (Leiopotherapon plumbeus and Glossogobius sp.) and five introduced species ( Channa striata, Oreochromis niloticus, Cyprinus carpi, Hypopthalmichthys molitrix and Clarias batrachus) were identified L. plumbeus was the most dominant species. Two-way ANOVA revealed that fish abundance was significantly higher at downstream than midstream and upstream stations due to the presence of sanctuary and BFAR [Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources] fingerling dispersal activities. Fish species richness and abundance did not differ significantly during wet and dry seasons. Introduced fish species were abundant both in the wet and dry season. Five species were omnivores while two were carnivores. This may indicate a poor habitat quality. Water quality was uniform among the three stations in both wet and dry seasons. It was within the optimum range for growth and survival of stocks. L. plumbeus samples were bigger during the dry season, but its morphological characteristics did not statistically differ in the dry and wet seasons. Meristic counts were homogeneous during the wet and dry season. Canonical Correspondence Analysis revealed the influence of salinity, temperature and turbidity on the distribution of some freshwater species.
