Vermicompost is an effective fertiliser that provides the physiological performance of plants, biomass growth and biochemical quality. It is a concentrated fertiliser whose doses must be measured according to optimal use needs and physiological requirements for each crop. Vermicompost, in low mineral collateral conditions, increases the amount of minerals available to plants in soil, contributing to the growth and development of plants through increased supply of minerals – hormone-like compounds contribute to plant growth and development. On the other hand, hormone-like compounds and vermicompostal organic matter are more effective in high mineral protection conditions, while micro-organisms contribute to the recovery of soil fertility (Ieviņš, 2019). The aim of the study was to clarify the effects of vermicompost on a specific potato group based on phenotypic features (blue and violet tuber flesh) in increasing productivity levels, using the principles of organic farming in agro-climatic conditions of Latvia. The results of the practical experience in the study reflect the effectiveness of the use of organic fertiliser produced by Vermivilla Ltd., vermicompost “Biohumus (earthworm compost)”, as well as the experience acquired so far on the importance of using vermicompost in potato cultivation.
