The impact of large-scale atmospheric processes on the distribution of horse mackerel in the southwestern part of Pacific ocean was investigated. The features of the distribution of horse mackerel were determined by the results of the work of the fishing fleet, presented in the form of monthly fishing atlases. Parameters of atmospheric processes were characterized by series of the first six main components of the features of the monthly atmospheric pressure fields by natural orthogonal functions. The method of multiple regression analysis established statistically significant relationships between atmospheric processes and the distribution of commercial aggregations of horse mackerel. It is shown that latitudinal displacements of aggregations occur with certain time shifts after changes in atmospheric processes. The regression equations are obtained, the contributions of each of the key components used in the equations are determined, the corresponding time shifts are established. The results can be used to determine the optimal arrangement of the fishing fleet by predicting the latitudinal displacements of the most commercial aggregations of horse mackerel with a lead time of 1–4 months.
