неизвестный. An attenlpt was nlade at National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad, during 2001 to find out relationship between nonl1alized difference vegetation index and land productivity index. A. small area of 5 min 5 min from Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu was selected (Topo sheet No. 56 N/3, scale 1:50,000). Remotely sensed data ofIndian remote sensing (IRS) satellite IRS L3 of September 1999 and IRS - 1D L3 for May, October and December 2000 were used for preparation of soil Dlap. Normalized difference vegetation index values have been extracted for different soil mapping units. Factors for rating of land productivity index for different soils of the study area was worked out. The study showed that polynomials of higher order (4 or more) ofthe average of maximum nonnalized difference vegetation index values of different soil classes Inight be considered for predicting land productivity index values with precision (R2 =910/0).
