Effect of plant density on biomass production and allocation of chili var. Hungnung under greenhouse condition.

The effect of plant density (within-row plant distances of 0.3m, 0.4m, 0.5m, 0.6m and 0.7m) on biomass production and allocation of chili Capsicum annuum var. Hungnung was studied in a glasshouse experiment by periodical destructive plant harvest. The experiment lasted for a period of 180 days after transplanting (DAT). Twenty plants were measured destructively for each harvest and all plant parts dry mass were determined after oven drying at 70°C for 48 hours. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of plant density on biomass production and allocation of chili var. Hungnung during developmental stages. The result showed that the drymass of leaf, stem, fruit, root and green leaf area attained maximum at 120 DAT before gradually decline with time.
