A simulation software for the modelling of hot pressing of medium density fibreboard

MDF is a wood composite that is composed of wood fibres and thermosetting resin that is produced by hot pressing process. Wide variety of softwood and hardwood species can be used in the production of MDF. Different physical and chemical properties of several wood species will results in the variation of properties of the finished product.This present simulation model was developed, to improve the understanding of the inter-relationship between various inputs, and the impact they have on the final product of MDF. The Matlab programme was converted into simulation software. It would give a fast solution while providing a very convenient platform for producing graphical results and to predict the hot pressing conditions of MDF. In this model the programming was done to predict the changes in pressing pressure, vapor pressure, vapor density, specific heat capacity and latent heat of vaporization. The model is able to predict number of variables that changes with the temperature. With the further development in the programming the model can be used by industry people to increase their understanding of the process.
