Application of a stochastic cohort model CSA for red king crab, Paralithodes camtschaticus, in the Barents Sea

Bakanev, S.V.
The annual abundance of Kamchatka crab in the Barents Sea is calculated for the period from 1994 to 2006. The calculation of the abundance was carried out using the method of cohort analysis of catches obtained from the results of trawl surveys (stochastic version of the CSA model). The distributions of posterior probabilities of possible values of the model parameters are obtained on the basis of the Bayesian approach. Two model scenarios have been tested - with and without illegal catch. The calculation results showed the feasibility of using the stochastic version of the CSA model for assessing and predicting the red king crab stock, as well as for carrying out the risk analysis of the consequences of the adopted management strategy
