: In last decades selection in cattle breeding use genomics anddirect selection to reveal preferred variants of polymorphic genes to a significantextent. In competitive beef production an important factor is the optimization ofgrowth dynamics, quality carcasses production and meat rich in flavor. The aim ofthis research was to determine the allele variants of the GHR gene in the populationof fattening beef and their correlation with the growth characteristics, carcasses andmeat quality. In the studied population, dominance of the allele A variant (0.588) ofthe GHR gene was determined. Correlation between GHR gene allele variants withgrowth characteristics, slaughter weight, hot and cold carcasses weight, anddressing percentage was not determined. Significant relation was observed betweenAA genotype of GHR gene with a higher fat content (p<0.01) and a lower contentof muscle tissue (p<0.05). Also, significant correlation between A allele with thebody fat coverage (p<0.05) was observed. The results suggests on potential of theGHR gene polymorphism in the immediate cattle selection assisted by geneticmarkers. Favouring the allele G of GHR gene, it is possible to reduce theproportion of fat tissue in young bulls and increase the proportion of muscles. It isdesirable to continue monitoring allele variants effects of the GHR gene onphenotypic characteristics and interaction with other candidate genes.
