The study was conducted to analyze combining ability in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) for yield and its contributing traits over different environments. Ten genetically diverse parents were crossed in half-diallel fashion excluding reciprocals and the trial was arranged in a Randomized Block Design with three replications during rabi 2016-17 at research farm, Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute (RARI), Durgapura, Jaipur. The outcomes from current study demonstrated significance of GCA and SCA for all the characters under studies indicated the importance of both types of gene action. GCA and SCA variances were significant for all the characters in both F1 and F2 generations of each three environments, indicating the importance of both additive and non-additive genetic control of all the characters under study. On the basis of GCA effects and per se performance, an overall evaluation across the environment showed that the parent BH 959 for both generations in E1 and E2 and RD 2786 for F2 generation in all the environments emerged as good general combiners for grain yield with simultaneous consideration of other characters. An overall assessment revealed that the cross BHS 400 × BH 959 and BH 959 × RD 2786 in E1 and E2 for F1 /F2 or both generations whereas cross PL 426 × RD 2552 in F2 generation of E2 and E3 environment emerged as good specific cross combinations for grain yield with simultaneous consideration of other characters.
