Karbonlagre i Karlshaugen naturreservats myrer, og endringer i myrenes utbredelse fra 1930 til 2010. | Carbon stocks in the bogs of Karlshaugen nature reserve, and change in the bogs extent from 1930 to 2010.

Formålet med oppgaven var å gjøre rede for karbonlagrene i Karlshaugen naturreservats myrer anno 2010, samt vurdere utviklingen av myrenes areal og karbonlagre fra 1930 til 2010 ved hjelp av GIS-verktøy.I undersøkelsene er det tatt åtte myrprøver ned til 80 cm av myra i midten av naturreservatet. Disse prøvene dannet grunnlaget for en mer detaljert studie av karbonlageret ved denne myra, med analyser av von Post, farge, tørrstoff, glødetap, pH og % nitrogen (N) og karbon (C). De tre resterende myrene ble prøvetatt med vanlig jordbor til 40 cm, og gjennomgikk ikke von Post- og fargevurderinger. Gjennomsnittet av resultatene fra myra i midten av reservatet ble benyttet for torven under 40 cm på de tre andre myrene. Dette ansees som et godt estimat, da analysene av myrprøvene viste at de fleste faktorene stabiliserer seg rundt 40-50 cm. For den midterste myra ligger det gjennomsnittlig lagret 111,7 tonn C/ dekar (daa), mens estimatet for hele området gir 130,6 tonn C/ daa. Dette er mye karbon i forhold til andre markslag, med skog og jordbruksareal som nærmeste konkurrenter med gjennomsnittsestimat på henholdsvis 16,4 og 18,6 tonn C/daa. Gjennomsnittsestimat for myr i Norge ligger på 47,5 tonn C/daa. Området Karlshaugen er gunstig for myrdannelse, med topografi og klima som legger til rette for torvakkumulasjon. Gjennom dårlige nedbrytningsforhold i dette næringsfattige og varierte landskapet har vi fått dype torvavsetninger ned mot 4 m enkelte steder. Samlet ligger det rundt 4668 tonn karbon lagret i Karlshaugen naturreservats myrer pr. 2010. Dette er en nedgang på beskjedne 117,3 tonn C fra 1930 og vil i realiteten, som vist i diskusjonen, sannsynligvis være noe høyere.Tre av fire myrer har minket i areal siden 1930. Den søndre myra har gått ned mest og har mistet 2,5 daa. Det er en samlet nedgang i myrareal på 3,3 daa for de fire myrområdene, fra 39,0 til 35,7 daa myr. Det ser ut til at det særlig er utstikkere av myr som har grodd igjen, slik at myrområdene har fått en mer avrundet form. Gjennomsnittsdypet er det samme for 1930 og 2010, men de fleste dybdene viste en endring fra 1930. I det store og hele virker myrene i Karlshaugen naturreservat svært stabile, med få store endringer. The purpose of this study was to account for the carbon stocks in the bogs of Karlshaugen nature reserve anno 2010, and assess the development of the bogs area and carbon stocks from 1930 to 2010 using GIS-tools.There were taken eight bog samples down to a maximum depth of 80 cm from the bog located in the middle of the reserve. These samples formed the basis for a more detailed study of carbon storage inthis bog. Analysis of von Post, color, dry matter, loss on ignition, pH and % nitrogen (N) and % carbon (C) were performed. The three remaining bogs were sampled with a regular soil sampler to a depth of40 cm, and underwent the same analysis except for von Post and color evaluations. Average values from the bog in the middle of the reserve were used for the peat below 40 cm on the remaining three bogs. This is considered a good estimate, since most of the analysis show a stabilization around 40-50 cm. The bog in the middle of the reserve stores on average 111.7 tons C per decare, while the estimate for the entire area lie around 130.6 tons C per decare. This is a lot of carbon compared to other soiltypes, with forest and agricultural land as its nearest “competitors” with average estimates of respectively 16.4 and 18.6 tons C per decare in Norway. An average estimate for bogs in Norway is47.5 tons C per decare. The area near Karlshaugen is favorable for the formation of bogs. The topography and climatic conditions facilitate peat formation, and the low nutrient availability limitsdecomposition. The result is peat deposits down to 4 meters in some locations. In total, there are around 4668 tons of carbon stored in the bogs of Karlshaugen nature reserves at present. This is a modest decrease of 117.3 tons of C since 1930, and is, as later discussed, in reality probablysomewhat higher. Three of the four bogs in the reserve have decreased in area since 1930. The southern bog has decreased the most, approximately 2.5 decare. The total decline in bog area for the four bogs is 3.3decare, from 39.0 to 35.7 decare. It seems that it is mostly the narrow ends and shapes of the bogs that have been overgrown by other vegetation, so the bogs are now more rounded in shape compared to 1930. Average depth is the same for 1930 and 2010, but most depths showed a changefrom 1930. On the whole, it seems that the bogs of Karlshaugen nature reserve are quite stable, with few major changes.
