Dietary effects of commercial probiotics on the growth performance of broiler chickens

To determine the effects of five commercially available probiotics on the growth performance, crypt depth and villi height of the small intestine, and apparent total tract crude protein and energy digestibility, 630 straight-run day old Cobb chicks were randomly divided into 7 treatments replicated 10 time with 9 birds per replicate following completely randomized design. The dietary treatment used were: T1 Basal Diet (negative control);T2: T1 + 75 ppm each of zinc bacitracin and chlortetracycline; T3: T1 + Bacillus subtilis A; T4: T1 + Bacillus subtilis B; T5: T1 + Enterococus faecium; T6: T1 + Bacillus subtilis C; and T7: T1 + combination of Enterococcus faecium, Bifidobacterium sp., Pediococus sp., and Lactobacillus sp. Three birds per treatment were randomly selected for intestibal morphometry (villi height and crypt depth) in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Results showed that zinc bacitracin + chlortetracycline and probiotics had no effect on the growth performance, intestinal morphometry, and crude protein and energy digestibilities in broiler chickens. Under the conditions for which this study was conducted, supplementation of zinc bacteria + chlortetracycline and probiotics do not significantly affect growth performance of broilers, intestinal morphometry, and crude protein and energy digestibilities in broilers chickens.
