The implementation of the Social Industrial Forest Energy System (SIFES) in the Comayagua region, Honduras, as an option for socioeconomic developement, is described. Through this system, the development of community activities on a sound technical basis is sought. This pilot model brings about the integration of forest resources, cottage industry and the generation of electrical energy, as a contribution to the economic and sociaol development of rural communities.

Se describe la implementación del Sistema Industrial Forestal Energético Social (SIFES) en la región de Comayagua (Honduras) como alternativa de desarrollo socioeconómico. Por medio de este sistema (SIFES) se intenta que las comunidades desarrollen actividades sobre bases tecnológicas apropiadas. Este modelo piloto, conlleva la integración del recurso forestal, la pequeña industria artesanal y la autogeneración de energía eléctrica, al mejoramiento de la economía rural.
