Mungbean weed control [study conducted in the Philippines]
1982
Navarez, D.C. | Moody, K.
In an experiment involving tillage and weeding regime Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. dominated in the plots that were not plowed before planting while Echinochloa colona (L.) Link dominated in the plots plowed twice and harrowed three times before planting. Controlling the weeds by hand weeding significantly increase mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] yield in the plots that were plowed and harrowed prior to seeding but not in the plots that were not plowed before planting. In another experiment where different weed control practices were evaluated, interrow cultivated followed by hand weeding was the most promising weed control method based on efficiency, yield, and economic return to weeding. Other promising treatments were: one or two hand weedings, hoe weeding followed by hand weeding, and two hoe weedings. One interrow cultivation or one hoe weeding failed to give adequate weed control and yields were not significantly different from the unweeded check
