Effect of vernalization of flowering of Chinese cabbage

Chinese cabbage seeds of 9 cultivars from AVRDC and 2 local cultivars were soaked in water at room temperature for 12 hours. These were germinated in the growth chamber at 10 degrees Centigrade, 90% R.H. and light condition was 16 hrs/day. The duration of vernalization was kept in different period; 0, 10, 20 and 30 days before transplanting. Vernalized seedlings at 30 day treatment gave the highest total number of flowering plants, while the 10-day vernalized seedlings gave the lowest number of flowering plants. Seedling from the control treatment (0-day) which was germinated in seed bed at room temperature produced no flowering plants during this experiment
