From the researches carried out during 1981-1983 in the Plain of Transylvania, it shows that in winter wheat crops an abundant phytophagous Diptera fauna developed, this representing about 23 % of the total of pests in this crop. The most important species are: Oscinella frit, Opomyza florum, Hylemyia coarctata, Phorbia securis and Ph. penicillifera. For these species, data are given on the ecological factors influencing their life-cycle and the level of attack. The role of climate and technological factors favouring high levels of phytophagous Diptera populations is particularly emphasized.
