Two bacterial insecticides, Bacillus thuringiensis H-14 and B. sphaericus 1593 were evaluated for larvicidal potency against mosquito larvae of Aedes aegypti. LC50 values showed that B. thuringiensis H14 (4 x 10(5) spores/ml) had a higher pathogenicity against fourth larval instars of A. aegypti than B. sphaericus (3.1 x 10(6) spores/ml) by about 7.75 times. Larval selection with LC90 of both pathogens for 8 successive generations caused a decrease in the susceptibility levels of selected strains of A. aegypti as compared with the original strain. Moreover, the results indicated that the effect of larval selection with the above bioinsecticides led to an obvious reduction in the egg production and hatchability of eggs produced by mosquito adults that developed from surviving larvae
