Total fat and water contents during different developmental stages were estimated in silkworm, Bombyx mori L. race Nistari. The fat content was lower in the larval stage, but was higher in the egg, pupation and adult stages. The maximum fat content was found in the adult stage. The male pupa and male adult contain more fat (14.46% and 19.77% respectively) than the female pupa and female adult (8.88% and 8.17% respectively). The water content gradually increased with the development of the egg upto the fourth instar and then decreases gradually till the adult stage. The correlation coefficient estimates revealed that the two components, fat and water contents, were significantly negatively associated with each other in egg stage, male pupa and male moth.
