Effectiveness of racumin baiting for reducing rodent number in stores [of Bangladesh]

Racumin bait at 0.0375% concentration was evaluated in 19 farmers' stores at village Bhogra, Joydebpur. Three baitings spaced at 15 days interval were used in each house. Each baiting was continued for three consecutive nights and the bait consumption was recorded. Before and after each baiting, a pre and a post-treatment population indices were taken by setting six tracking tiles (two on the floor, two on the macha' and two inside the dole' containing paddy) in each house. The number of positive tiles and the species composition of rodents were also recorded during each population index. A total of 3.97 kg Racumin was consumed during the study. The overall reduction of rodent number after three baitings was 83.3% (p01). The highest and the lowest rodent activities were recorded on the macha' (47.87% positive tiles) and on the floor (15.96% positive tiles), respectively, in farmers' houses.
