Estimation of grazing areas and herbage yield through random sampling technique

Based on the enumeration of grazing areas in sampled villages under a pilot survey undertaken in Puri district the estimate of area of grazing land using ratio method of estimation was about 34.5 thousand hectares with about 6% standard error. The overall yield of herbage from 1 m x 1 m plot varied from 30.8 to 36.9 g. The yield of grasses without being grazed by animals for 30 days was estimated at 59 g in winter and 71 g in rainy season from a plot of size 1 m x 1 m. No herbage was available in summer
