Spatial distribution of onion thrips and cabbage aphid on and response of some cruciferous crop plants [examination of the resistance of cultivars of different cruciferae to the pest in the field; laboratory studies on the varietal preference and distribution of cabbage aphids on the leaves of the plants: comparison of distribution on upper and lower lamina]

In a field experiment, high number of onion thrips, Thrips tabaci, were found on several cultivars of cruciferous crops. Although no cultivar escaped from the infestation, there were significant differences in the mean number of thrips - cultivar "De Brunswick" attracted the lowest number of thrips among the cultivars. More thrips occurred on medium and old leaf age categories than on the youngest leaves and in addition, more on the lower than on the upper laminae. In1414laboratory experiments, movement and distribution of the cabbage aphid on the leaves of cruciferous plants were investigated. The results indicate that the cabbage aphid may distribute in response to visual and olfactory stimuli. The cabbage aphid was able to discriminate between the various cultivars. The factors affecting the distribution of the cabbage aphid on the plant are discus
