Evaluation of Fusarium resistance in wheat ears

The possibility of selecting genotypes with improved Fusarium resistance on a quantitative basis were investigated with 59 wheat lines in a 2-year field trial. A new method determining the optimal date for scoring resulted in a highly significant correlation between the scores in the different years (r = 0.529). As a quantitative selection trait, the 12-ear weight proved to be most convenient. Despite of the high environmental interactions, this parameter allows for reliable differentiation between genotypes and is easy to handle. The symptomatic development and the1093reduction of the 12-ear weight are positively correlated (r = 0.768).
