Development of low-drifted microgranule insecticide for brown planthopper control in later growth stage of rice

The present study was carried out to investigate utilization feasibility of the wasted talc mixed with diatomaceous earth as microgranule carrier in the chain of low-drifted pesticide formulation development project. Microgranule was formulated with 2 % BPMC (2-sec-butylphenyl-methylcarbamate) as toxicant and some additives. Dustability of the talc mixed with 20 % of diatomaceous earth by weight was acceptable as microgranule carrier in the respect of dusted amount by engine powered duster and residual amount in blow tube. Average particle size and bulk density of the microgranule using the mixture carrier was higher than those of the microgranule using diatomaceous earth or dust. Moi1348sture content of diatomaceous earth in the mixture carrier imparted a spare influence on BPMC stability during the accelerated temperature storage for 12 weeks. Drift of the microgranule applied by engine powered duster was found to be much less than dust. Deposited amount of the microgranule on the ground was higher and on the lower half of rice (Oryzae sativa, Chucheongbyeo) at ripening stage was almost twice as much as that of dust.
