Significant differences at 0.96 and 0.93 for number born and born alive, respectively, were found between the natural and standardized lines over six generations. In each generation, the standardized line had an average advantage of 0.12 pig over the other line. Neither generation nor the interaction of line and generation significantly affected litter size. Total selection differentials of 5.82 and 5.88 for number born and born alive, respectively, were found in the standardized line. The natural line had a value of 4.95 for both measures of litter size. In breeding of the sires and dams was too small to be of major concern. Gilts reared in smaller fraternities grew faster than those reared in larger ones
