shThe influence of sprinkling on the quality of yields of two sugar beet varieties at variable densities of plant (18, 22, 26, 30, 35 x 45 cm) and different sowing dates (April - 10, 20, 30; May - 10) was investigated. Sprinkler irrigation did not exert any significant effect on the sugar content but it decreased the content of potassium and slightly increased that of sodium in roots. The fodder value of sugar beets irrigated by sprinkling worsened owing to a drop of the protein, calcium and magnesium content in leaves. Changes in the plant density effected strongly the chemical composition of sugar beets including also the content of components responsible for their technological and fodder value. Earlier sowing dates and a decrease of the plant density increased the length, diameter and weight of single r
