Effect of Alar on nitrogen compounds content in apple trees

The effect of Alar 85 on the content of the total amount of protein and soluble nitrogen in 0.5% acetic acid in leaves, shoots and fruits of apple trees, Melrose cv., was investigated. A considerable increase of N content was found at the beginning of August in shoots treated with Alar 85. Shoots taken in autumn or in spring of the following year showed a high percentage of arginine in the proteins and also contained more free amino-acids
