With Par. 14 AbfG (waste removal law) the parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany has established an instrument to initiate the avoidance, the reduction and the recirculation of wastes. The Federal Government believes to achieve its aims without further regulations. However, it is prepared to employ these regulations if the goal diminishing the waste problem and the security of resources is not achieved. First activities have been developed in connection with the plastic packing of beverages. Reusing of bottles is given the preference to one way bottles with raw material recycling. Further measures in conjunction with Par. 14 AbfG are being prepared.
