Certain botanical characters and yield of jews mallow plant as affected by nitrogen fertilization and some growth substances [Egypt]

Two field experiments were conducted on Jews mallow during the two growing seasons 1986 and 1987. The highest level of N fertilization caused a significant increase in plant height, leaf area, number of leaves and dry weight per plant as well as total yield per plot. GA3 alone or in combination with N fertilization increased plant highest whereas decreased leaf area, dry weight per plant and total yield per plot. Pix or Ethrel either alone or in combination with N fertilization showed the most beneficial effect on the number of branches and leaves, leaf area and dry weight per plant as well as total yield per plot whereas plant height was decreased. B-9 alone or combined with N fertilization showed the lowest effect in this respect. Regarding the content of endogenous phytohormones, all growth substances applied in combination with N fertilization increased the content of both auxin and cytokinin. Moreover, B-9 or Pix combined with N fertilization decreased whereas GA3 increased the content of endogenous gibberellins. Furthermore, B-9 was the only substance which caused a significant decrease in the content of ABA.
