[Theory of the one dimensional infiltration. The absorption]

The knowledge of the infiltration phenomenon is of grat importance in teh design of the irrigation and drainage systems as well as in several hydrological studies. In this work, were first stablished, the basic equations that govern the one-dimensional infiltration of water into the soil when the air flow is not considered and secondarily for the case of the horizontal infiltration (absorption) three solutions types were attempted; i.-an analytical solution; ii.-a quasi-analytical solution, and iii.-three optimal solutions. The first two solutions are exact and the last area approximated. The analytical solution is valid only for a diffusivity particual function then is limited; the quasi-analytical and optimal solutions are valid for andy diffusivity function, but the first one requires iterative numerical methods, for this reason the optimal solutions are preferable for many purposes. According to the explanation above it the optimal solutions were evaluated both with the analytical and quasi-analytical solutions, in the last one three real soils were used, the error was weighed with teh sorptivity calculations. The results showed that the optimal solutions are excellent approximations. The analysis of the vertical infiltration willbe done subsequent following studies.
