[Effect of Meloidogyne spp. root-knot nematode on the infection of Pseudomonas solanacearum (bacterial wilt) in tomato]

The average yield per ha of tomatoes in Indonesia is still low. One of the causes is the disease of bacterial wilt. This bacterial attack will increase when the plant is already infested by root-knot nematode. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the population of root-knot nematode in the soil will influence the infection of bacterial wilt in the plant, with a hypothesis that the higher the population of root-knot nematode, the higher the infection rate of bacterial wilt. Results indicated that plants already infested by root-knot nematode had higher possibility to be infected by bacterial wilt, with a shorter incubation period. Population density of root-knot nematode did not significantly affect incubation period of bacterial wilt.
