Preconditions for effective high-quality milk and beef production

The level of milk and beef consumption and quality were compared with international levels. Further, we evaluated the intensity and breed structure of cattle in Czechoslovakia and abroad. Along with this, the paper deals with the structural development, intensity and economy of cattle rearing in connection with agroecological conditions of production. Decisive production and economic factors are analyzed. They influence the intensity of cattle rearing, milk and meat quality. Special attention is paid to penetration of pollutants to the food chain. Some possibilities to apply an alternative and ecological system of agriculture are suggested, especially in the sphere of water source protection and protected landscape regions, along with possibilities how to change production structure in regions considerably affected with imissions. Except this, some changes in economic stimulation and standards of quality in increasing milk and beef quality are indicated. The paper deals with the problems of efficiency and subsidies in cattle rearing, mainly from the viewpoint of different agroecological conditions of farming.
