Weed control in rice seedlings nurseries and its effect on the transplanted crop

In the first experiment, two trials were conducted to determine the efficacy of different weed control treatments in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings nurseries. In the first trial pretilachlor + fenclorim, thiobencarb and piperophos + 2, 4-D provided good weed control. In the second trial, none of the herbicides reduced weed dry weight significantly. Molinate and cinmethylin were toxic to rice. In the second experiment, two trials were conducted to determine the effect of weed control treatments in the seedling nurseries on weed growth and yield in the subsequent transplanted rice crop. In the first trial, the different weed control treatments in the seedling nurseries had no effect on the growth and yield of rice when any weed seedlings present were removed before transplanting. In the second trial, herbicide application in the seedling nursery reduced the density and weight of Echinochloa glabrescens Munro ex Hook. f. compared to the untreated check. There were significant negative correlations between the density and the weight of transplanted E. glabrescens and rice dry matter production.
