Poplar growing in bad site conditions of the East-Slovakian Lowland

The growth, volume and value production, and the health of poplar trees I-214, Robusta and Virginiana de Frignicourte, is evaluated in the present paper; the poplars are grown in bad site conditions of the East-Slovakian Lowland, in the group of forest types Ulmeto-Fraxinetum carpineum. The most vigorous growth and the maximum volume and value production was observed in I-214 poplars. If poplar-trees are to be grown successfully at these sites, systematic mechanical cultivation of soil on the whole area should be performed until the end of rotation.
