Evaluations for the best application time of amidosulfuron for the control of cleavers (Galium aparine) in winterwheat in France

The user flexibility of Amidosulfuron for the control of Galium aparine has been evaluated in 6 field studies in the spring of 1991 in France. Amidosulfuron has been applied at 9 different timings on every location on just germinating Galium aparine in the middle of February to flowering plants end of May. To differentiate the application timing better, Amidosulfuron was tested with 15 g ai/ha, which is half of the registered dosage rates. This dosages rate is recommended for combinations with products which partly control Galium aparine. Applications during the tillering of the cereals achieved 95 % control of Galium aparine. With the later applications during the shooting period of the cereals, on large 25-40 centimetre plants of Gallium aparine, the efficacy was 80-85 %. In comparison to the standard Fluroxypyr, used with 100 g ai/ha the dosage rate recommended in combinations with products which partly control Galium aparine, 15 g ai/ha Amidosulfuron gave a better, more consistent control at the ealier application times during the tillering of the winterwheat. The efficacy was comparable at the later timings from end of tillering up to shooting of the cereals
