Adaptation of Nephotettix virescens (Distant) from South Sulawesi to different resistant varieties of rice, Cisadane (no resistance), IR 26 (source of resistance by TKM 6), IR36 (source of resistance by Ptb 18) and IR 54 (source of resistance by GP 15), was studied in the greenhouse at Bogor Research Institute for Food Crops from March 1985 to January 1986, through six generations. The results showed that resistant varieties supressed the growth N. virescens in the first and second generations. Nymphal stage and fertility of eggs on all varieties were the same at the third up to the sixth generation. The lifespan of adult insects in the fourth generation was the same on all varieties. The sex ratio decreased with succeeding generations. The biology of N. virescens maintain on resistant varieties was the same as insects maintained on susceptible varieties for five generations.
