This paper covers experimental fishing activities of K.K. Manchong conducted in the EEZ of Malaysia from March, 1987 to January 1988. During this period, K.K. Manchong made 14 voyages covering a total of 114 days with 65 actual fishing days. The objectives were to determine the suitability of various fishing gears and the distribution of various fish species in the EEZ of Malaysia, particularly in the coastal and offshore waters of Sarawak. Experimental fishing was carried out with several gears such as purse seine, troll, handlines, longlines, fish traps and bottom trawl. Pelagic fish such as tunas, the carangids and the clupeids were caught and their distribution recorded. Demersal gear caught many species of demersal fish typical of tropical waters. Physico-chemical parameters such as temperature and salinity were recorded.
