Occurrence of indigenous parasitoids of the important cabbage pests in the Cologne-Bonn production region

The occurrence of the larval and pupal parasitoids of the cabbage lepidopterous pests Plutella xylostella (L.), Mamestra brassicae (L.), Autographa gamma (L.), Pieris brassicae (L.) and Pieris rapae (L.) was investigated in the area of Cologne-Bonn in 1989. Among the 18 different species of parasitoids, there were five species belonging to the Ichneumonidae, ten species of the Braconidae, one species to the Pteromalidae and two species to the Diptera Tachinidae. The larval parasitoid of P. xylostella, Diadegma semiclausum (Hellen), was the most dominant species covering 97 per cent of the entire spectrum of specimen. Microplitis mediator (Haliday) was the most important larval parasitoid of M. brassicae and A. gamma, having parasitized 97.3 per cent and 64.3 per cent, respectively. The larvae of P. brassicae and P. rapae were parasitized by Apanteles glomeratus (L.) at the extent of 100 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively.
