Determination of (1,1'-biphenyl)-2-ol residues in waters by solid phase spectrofluorimetry

A simple and sensitive spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of (1,1'-biphenyl)-2-ol residues in water is described. (1,1'-Biphenyl)-2-ol shows native fluorescence at a pH = 10.20, it was fixed on QAE Sephadex A-25. The fluorescence of the gel packed in a 1 mm silica cell was measured directly using a solid-surface attachment. The applicable concentration range was 1.5 - 50.0 ng/ml with a relative standard deviation of 0.8% and a detection limit of 0.08 ng/ml. The method was applied to the determination of (1,1'-biphenyl)-2-ol in natural water. This method is more sensitive than other methods described in the literature
