Some relations among land - environment - landscape and territory

The rising interest on the environment and land planning requires on the one hand more exhaustive definitions of the terms involved, on the other hand a better comprehension of the relations among these terms. Land, environment and landscape being holistic concepts present overlapping areas which are always more important than the individual ones. This remark led to necessity of preparing a scheme which illustrates the relations among the concepts. The scheme starts from the basic idea that the terrestrial surface is comprehensive of all aspects but is the different observer's interest which determines the conceptual differences. Coming to the practical problems it is necessary to bear in mind that environment, land and landscape have in the ecosystem and in the land scape ecology the reference-points for drawing up a sound land planning based on sustainability

Il crescente interesse verso i problemi ambientali e territoriali richiede da un lato piu' esaurienti definizioni sui termini collegati all'ambiente ed al territorio e dall'altro la comprensione delle relazioni esistenti tra questi termini. Essendo le terre, l'ambiente, il paesaggio ed il territorio dei concetti olistici, le loro zone di sovrapposizione risultano sempre prevalenti rispetto a quelle individuali. Questa constatazione ha comportato la necessita' di redigere uno schema che sviluppa le relazioni tra i concetti partendo dall'idea di base che una porzione di superficie terrestre e' comprensiva di tutte le realta' ambientali e territoriali ma che e' il diverso interesse dell'osservatore a determinarne le differenze concettuali. Passando ai problemi pratici di pianificazione, e' necessario riferirsi all'ecosistema ed all'ecologia del paesaggio per operare opportune scelte ambientali, territoriali e paesistiche, basate sulla ecocompatibilita'
