The histopathology of 480 portal hemal nodes (hemolymphnodes) was studied in 60 slaughtered young cattle affected by chronic liver disease (purulent hepatitis) or lung disease (catarrhal bronchopneumonia). A comparison was also made with the histological findings from portal lymph nodes and spleen of the same animals. The hemal node response was more similar to that of the spleen as far as the lymphoplasmacytic reaction is concerned. Differences were noted in erythrophagocytosis and in myelopoiesis. The former was much lower in the hemal nodes. Myelopoietic activities were high both under normal and pathologic conditions especially in the spleen. However, only hemal nodes showed significant increases in eosinophils content under certain pathologic conditions. Slight follicular amyloidosis was observed only in hemal nodes and lymph nodes
