Biological piggery wastewater treatment using Sequencing Batch Reactors [SBR]

Английский. Two bench-scale SBR were constructed in metacrylate with an operative volume of 5.1. Each reactor treated 500 ml/d of clarified piggery wastewater. The systems showed a good flexibility and enhanced removal of COD, N and P was easily reached modifying the duration of each phase. The best efficiency in N removal has been noticed in the reactor in which the feeding distribution was done in the two denitrification phases, allowing a better use of the organic substrate for the denitrifying bacteria. This confirmed that the limiting factor, in the removal of N from piggery wastewater, is represented by the too high ratio TKN/COD. Anyway, good removal of COD (93%), N (93%) and P (95%) was obtained with both reactors. A relevant concentration of COD was still present in the effluent of both reactors (circa 300 mg/l); on the basis of our experiences, we have considered this residual concentration of COD unbiodegradable at the adopted HRT, SRT and reaction temperature. Specific studies on biological phosphate removal have been carried out. High concentration of polyphosphates has been analitically determined into the biomass. This should confirm the presence, in the microbial community, of bacteria performing the surplus P removal

Il presente lavoro riporta i risultati di una sperimentazione condotta su due reattori da laboratorio del tipo SBR, realizzati con tubi in metacrilato del diametro di 100 mm e di 51 di volume operativo. Ciascun reattore ha trattato 500 ml/d di liquame suinicolo chiarificato. I reattori hanno dimostrato una buona capacita' di adattamento alle differenti condizioni operative e attraverso la modifica del tempo di durata di ciascuna fase si sono raggiunte buone rese in termini di abbattimento di COD (93%), N (93%) e P (95%). La miglior efficienza in termini di rimozione di N e' stata rilevata nel reattore in cui l'alimentazione veniva ripartita nelle due fasi di denitrificazione. L'effluente di entrambi i reattori contiene una non trascurabile concentrazione residua di COD non biodegradabile (circa 300 mg/l), che richiede un post-trattamento di tipo chimico-fisico. Sono stati svolti degli studi specifici sulla rimozione biologica del fosforo. I risultati hanno dimostrato la presenza di una notevole quantita' di fosforo legato ai metalli ma al contempo una elevata quantita' di polifosfati. Cio' dimostra che la rimozione in surplus del fosforo, rilevata nel corso della campagna sperimentale, e' risultato di un meccanismo biologico, svolto da batteri "accumulatori di fosforo", e di uno chimico-fisico di precipitazione
