In 7 herds with abortion rates ranging from 3 to 21 percent annually, antibodies to Leptospira hardjo occurred in 49.9 percent of cows, bovine virus diarrhoea in 33.7 percent, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis in 11.5 percent, Akabane virus in 92.2 percent, Aino virus in 62.1 percent; Brucella abortus and Toxoplasma gondii were not detected. Infection with L. hardjo and Akabane virus occurred prior to first mating, Aino virus during first pregnancy, BVD and IBR sporadically. In aborted foetuses, a sarcocystis-like agent was present in about 20 percent of cases, and no diagnoses could be made in 69 percent.
