Use of Eisenia foetida earthworm for the degradation of animal manure. 3. Biological evaluation of the final product

The effect of earthworm Eisenia foetida on the humification of animal manure, produced positive changes on the availability of nutrients and physical properties of the final products, which would have a beneficial action on the soils, improving the vegetal growth. Preliminary biological evaluation of the resultant products from the degradation (humification) of the rabbit, swine, cattle and goat manures, treated with and without earthworms, was carried out. Trials in pots under greenhouse conditions using oat, Avena sativa as a crop, were performed. Is was used a randomized block design considering three factors: type of manure (rabbit, swine, cattle and goat), humus doses (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) and earthworm (with and without) with three repetitions per treatment. Plant growth, plant height and dry matter production were measured. The mixture of soil with humus doses lengthened the vegetative period and increased the number of tillers, mainly in the treatments that used humus treated with earthworm, which favored the dry matter yield. The presence of Eisenia foetida earthworm in the process of animal manure humification, produced changes in the granulometry, which improved the vegetative growth. These changes were evident in the biological evaluation of rabbit, cattle and goat humus. The presence of earthworm would not be necessary in the humification process of swine manure
