The significance of a major outbreak of quarantinable disease to the Australian horse industries

The industries are major economic and social activities in Australia, contributing about 1.5 billion Australian dollars or 0.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Diseases which pose potential threats are discussed. A worst case scenario of a major outbreak of a disease is evaluated using the example of equine influenza, which highlights the need for strategies to manage quarantine risks.
