Seasonal changes in the nutritive value of grass species in spinifex pastures of Western Australia [effects of burning]
1988
Holm, A.McR. | Allen, R.J. (Western Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Carnarvon)
Two comparable sites, one recently burnt and one not burnt for many years, were sampled over a 2-year period for the N, P and S content and in vitro digestibility of common grass species as well as of spinifex. None of the grasses was more nutritious or palatable than spinifex, suggesting that manipulating these pastures by fire to increase the grass content is of little use.
