The establishment and growth of a number of pasture grasses and legumes was tested on Killuppa soil, in cleared and uncleared areas. Under similar conditions establishment was better in the uncleared areas but there was no consistent effect of clearing on pasture growth. Establishment was generally poor without some preliminary cultivation. The best grass was Kent gamba (Andropogon gayanus) and the best legume was Seca shrubby stylo (Stylosanthes scabra). Other pasture species which could be considered are pangola grass (Digitaria decumbens) and Verano (S. hamata).
