Implementation of phytotoxic and ecological-chemical data on efficacy and behaviour of herbicides in expert systems for advisory service and monitoring

A review of the development of the decision support systems HERBASYS (Herbicide Advisory System) and PEMOSYS (Pesticide Monitoring System) at the Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry in Germany is given. Concepts and structures of both expert systems are described and possible applications of the implemented modules, e.g. for herbicide selection, site-specific assessment of groundwater contamination or simulation of leaching behaviour and prediction of herbicide dissipation for estimating potential effects to succeeding crops, are outlined
