Evaluation of soybean genotypes (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) in different environmental condition of South Sulawesi

Fifteen soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) genotypes were grown at Kampili (Gowa district), Leang-leang (Maros district) and Bone-bone (Luwu district) during the dry and rainy seasons, 1988. A randomized complete block design was used with three replications in each site. Plots size 2.8 m x 5 m, and plant spacing was 40 cm x 15 cm. The plants were fertilized by 50 kg N, 50 kg P2O5 and 50 kg K2O. To protect from insect pests, deltamethrin (Decis 2.5 EC) at 0,5 l/ha/application was used. Results of the experiments showed that there were interactions between genotypes and environments in term of yield, number of pods per plant, 100-grain dry weight, days to 50 percent flowering and maturity of the plants. The grain yields of genotypes MSC8404-1-10, MLG2675 and MLG2684 were more than 1 t/ha (1-1.6 t/ha) in three sites. The number of pods per plant and plant height are very important characters to be considered in the selection of superior soybean genotypes. The environmental condition of planting site with similar to Bone-bone (Luwu district) experimental site was favourable for the selection of yield, number of pods per plant and seed size.
